Check out this interesting answer on Yedda

Yedda – People. Sharing. Knowledge.Christ with a small "c"

CHRIST (anointed). The title, The Anointed One, corresponds to the Messiah, the Hebrew name. It is the Greek translation of the word. With the word "the" prefixed, i.e., the Christ, it signifies the Messiah of Old Testament prophecy (Ma. 16:16,20; Mk. 8:29; Jo. 1:41). Jesus, the personal name of Christ, given at his birth, is often used with Christ---Jesus Christ---so that the word Christ becomes practically a part of the proper name (Jo. 1:17; Ac. 11:17; Ro. 5:1).
