Made in God's image...

Check out this http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca">interesting answer on Yedda

Did'>http://yedda.com/questions/religion_christianity_bible_8628652131719/answer4954323176381">Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?

To Patricia: ...about the nature of God. Closely associated with the concept of a physical god is the concept of creating a human god. This time the way in which the god is created is with human limitations and needs. Questions about the race, sex, culture, language, and appearance of God are all rooted in the misconception that God possesses human properties and limitations. God does not have a sexual identity, and in the Bible God has both masculine and feminine properties. There is no neuter gender in Hebrew, and that means that if a sexual identity is to be given it has to be given by the context in which it is written. Even in the New Testament there are many times when a feminine description of God is given (see Luke'>http://yedda.com/cgi/bible.pl.cgi?psg=lu13:34">Luke 13:34).

Man's creation in the image of God is also not a human concept. We do not look like God physically or in any human way physically. The way we are in God's image is in our capacity to love sacrificially, our creative abilities in art and music, our capacity to engage in spiritual things, our ability to feel guilt and sympathy and compassion. Even the purpose of man's existence is linked to this concept. If you try to explain why God created man on a physical human plane, you are going to end up making God a limited finite being. Humans were not created because God was lonely. The purpose of our creation is rooted in nonhuman struggles that we can only vaguely comprehend, but which emphasize things that are independent of any physical human objective (see Ephesians'>http://yedda.com/cgi/bible.pl.cgi?psg=eph3:9-11">Ephesians 3:9-11; 6:12; Job'>http://yedda.com/cgi/bible.pl.cgi?psg=job1:1-2:13">Job 1,2).

Cain and Abel

Do'>http://yedda.com/questions/believe_Jesus_said_Religion_Bible_8629373931619/answer4959203174161">Do you believe everything that Jesus said?

Sim; you are rambling all over the place, through the eyes you choose to perceive. It would be easier to answer, if you would focus on a specific issue you have. I have a feeling here that you have no intention of considering anything I might have to offer on this. In order to do this you would have to be at least a little receptive, have eyes and ears that are able to see and hear, and heaven knows, you would have to be willing to THINK!

However; this said, --the beginning of your reply is exactly the issue I made, in the first place. The mistake that Cain made is that he made a substitution to what God had commanded of him. Even though Cain's substitution might have seemed like an appropriate offering, he did not do what God commanded. The fact that Cain killed his brother, Abel, out of jealousey, is another big mistake Cain made, right on toip of his first mistake. Cain most likely could have repented of his sin, and farred better. There are other examples in the Bible, about man making sustitutions to what God had/has commanded, and this same practice of substitutions to what God has commanded goes on today throughout the Catholic Church and protestant denominations.

God's Truth

Whats'>http://yedda.com/questions/Whats_rapture_god_religion_8623875401414/answer1494138196387">Whats the "rapture"?

meghahame,

Here is a little more: It is hard to follow your thinking: Okay, we both agree who God talked/talks through. Now, you expect us to believe that God lies, or that God does not recognize his own creation and handi-work? Why does it say in Romans 1, that we can know God, that is, to know God, of the things invisible, --by the things that are visible? And because of such, there is no excuse not to know or see God? We can see God through His handiwork, in the creation. Why did God tell us about creation in Genisus, for example, if it weren't true? Were we not meant to read it? The beauty is that God's Word and science do agree. The problem is, there is often bad science, or bad theology. Where there is a disagreement, the error needs to be found. It has always turned out to be either bad science or bad theology, the errors of men, not God. God's Word and science are 'checkable.' Science is God's handiwork; why would God's handiwork and God be enemies? Is God a deceiver? How do you know that you even exist? Do you believe that you exist? Yes; God talks to us through Jesus Christ, written down by the inspired words of Jesus's Apostles, guided by the Holy Spirit. And we can know that the things Jesus taught are true, by checking them out. We can know that Jesus is who he said He was. That is why Jesus did signs and miracles, and passed some of these signs on to his Apostles, so that people could believe, see the power, and than trust. After all these years, the Bible and science AGREE! Only God could have accomplished this, not any man or men. Now tell me, why are you so afraid to study scripture? What about Acts 17: 10-11, where believers studied the scriptures daily to see if the things that the Apostles were telling them was true? How can you tell which 'holy' book is really true? Is it the Bible, which agrees with what can be seen, that is science, --or is the Qu'ran which does not stand up to the same miraculous standards that only God would have the power to accomplish. Any prophet whose prophesies do not pan out, is not a true prophet of God. Is not God perfect? Does God make mistakes? Discerning what is from God, and what is from man is no difficult task. God gave us human intelligence, made in His own image. Is it not rational thinking to expect that God would have us to THINK?

Checkability of the Bible

Bush and Religion

Yes; --"Great critical thinking." You have put me into a box and assumed much about me that is not correct.
The Bible has 'Checkability.'
Checking to see if the Bible is God’s word, or not:
Why would we not check a religious book for its authenticity? Without evidences; how could anyone know what is of God, and what is not?
Now, let’s look at the Bible. Is it inspired by God? Is it accurate?
First, I will post a fact as stated in the Bible, followed by the Biblical reference. And then, I will show the common belief of the day in which the author lived:

Fact: Blood is essential to life. (Lev. 17:11-14) Belief: Disease and spirits reside in blood. To cure disease, bleed patient.

Fact: Both male and female possess “seed of life.” (Gen. 3:15; 22:18) Belief: Male has baby in him. Woman = incubator.

Fact: Eating blood of animals forbidden. (Lev 17:12, 14) Belief: Raw blood used as beverage.

Fact: Do not eat animal that died naturally. (Lev. 17:15) Belief: No restrictions on manner of death.

Fact: Quarantine of certain diseases. (Lev. 13-15) Belief: No isolation of diseased.

Fact: Do not eat pork, scavengers (in Moses’ day). (Lev. 11) Belief: No food restrictions.

Fact: Principles of avoiding bacterial contamination -- one person to another. (Lev. 15:19-33) Belief: No rules of hygiene or isolation.

Fact: Human waste products to be buried. (Deut. 23:12-14) Belief: Human waste left on ground.

Fact: Human body can be opened for surgery. (Gen. 2:21) Belief: First operations done secretly because populace threatened doctors.

Fact: Burning clothes, washing self after contact with deceased man or animal. (Num. 19:5-22) Belief: No recognition of contagion problems.

Fact: Earth is round, day and night taking place simultaneously. (Isa. 40:22; Prov. 8:27; Luke 17:34) Belief: Earth is flat.

Fact: Earth is not physically supported. (None mentioned and Job 26:7) Belief: Earth is held up by four elephants or Atlas (a man), etc.

Fact: The North is empty (Our North Pole points out of our galaxy). (Job 26:7) Belief: Seeing a few stars to the North refuted this idea until 1932.

Fact: Space and stars are too large to be measured or counted. (Gen. 15:5; Jer. 33:22) Belief: Attempts to number the astronomical bodies went on until 1932.
Fact: The creation sequence -- plants, water creatures, birds, mammals, man, in that order. (Gen. 1:11-28) Belief: Most had man first. All varied from the correct concept.

Fact: The age of everything in the creation is the same. (Gen. !:1) Belief: Different times for dif. objects.

More checkable Biblical accuracies: In each of the following cases the Biblical writer had an opportunity to either state the widely held erroneous belief of his day, or to state a factually true description. In each case what was stated was true, demonstrating knowledge beyond the writer’s ability and thus necessarily from God. There is no excuse for not knowing God. (See Romans: 1:20)

Fact: The continents have floated away from a singular original land mass. (Gen. 1:9; Gen. 10:25) Belief: Each continent was autonomous (until 1970).

Fact: Hubert Spencer’s scientific principles. (Gen.1) Belief: No scientific system of statements.

Fact: Lightning is produced naturally. (Jer. 10:13; 51:16) Belief: Gods throw lightning bolts.

Fact: All men are blood relatives. (Acts 17:26) Belief: Men have different origins.

Fact: The water cycle. (Eccl. 1:7; Job 36:27, 28) Belief: Gods pour new water on land continuously.

Fact: Use of genetics in livestock. (Gen. 30:30-43) Belief: No recognition of inherited physical properties.

Fact: Snow and ice seen as valuable. (Job 38:22) Belief: Snow and ice seen as a scourge and waste.

Fact: Seaworthy ratio for ship construction -- 30 x 5 x 3. (Gen. 6:15) Belief: Ships ratio not considered; only the beauty.

Fact: Concepts of id and ego. (Rom. 7) Belief: God induced behavior explanations.

Fact: Animals can be changed (mutated). (Gen. 3:14) Belief: No change possible.

Fact: Directional correctness. (Luke 10:30) Belief: Directional error.

Fact: Distance accuracy. (Luke 24:13) Belief: Errors in distances.

Fact: Hittite nation’s existence. Belief: Denied until 1906.

The Bible, ulike other 'holy' books does not show the errors of what people of the day believed. Only God could have known these things, and to know with accuracy the future, in prophesies.
I would be happy to discuss or debate, with respect, any issue, --one at a time-- and I would encourage anyone else to join in who has something of substance to contribute, not empty heresies and name calling. I am an advocate for 'Truth." --not bombs!

Truth and Prophesy

Reader Comment, http://www.dailyrecord.com/, Opinion
Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:18 am

I totally agree with Peter Zapf about this issue.

This is not about hate or disrespect for people, nor is it about racism.

This is about love for people, about truth. This is about a war going on in heavenly places, between good and evil.

The Koran is not of God. The Koran fails to stand up to the tests of truth and prophesy. Revelations that are truly from God are never wrong. As one would expect from the writings of men; the Koran is typical:

Here; is but a small sampling of the many scientific inaccuracies of the Koran:

The Women 4:23 (Al-Nisa) “Nursing passes on genetic traits from mother to child.” However, the factual truth is that no genetic traits are transmitted by nursing.

Al-Nahl 16:69 (Sura of the Bee) “Honey comes out of a bee’s abdomen and heals men.” The factual truth is honey is not produced in a bee’s abdomen.

The Women 4:23 (Al-Nisa), The Heights 7:172 (Al-Araf) “Semen comes from the back or kidney area, not from the testicles.” The fact is that semen comes from the testicles.

The Prophets 21:31, The Bee 16:15, Lugman 31:10, The News 78:6-8, The Overwhelming 88:17, 19 “God threw down mountains like tent pegs to keep the earth from shaking.” The factual truth is mountains do not keep the earth from shaking and are not in any way like tent pegs.

Al-Anam 6:38 (Sura of the Cattle) “All animals and all things that fly form communities like man.” The fact is that many forms of life do not live in communities. The Ant 27:15-44 (Al-Naml) “Solomon talked with ants, birds, and giants” (not presented as a miracle or a fable.) The factual truth is that this kind of communication does not happen.

Compare this to the truths of the Bible; well beyond the wisdom and knowledge of the people of the day.

Truth, Not Bombs! --Global Heart Warming!

TRUTH, NOT BOMBS. People and Nations Everywhere!

Let's Talk! --World for TRUTH! --Some Global Heart Warming!

Truth, --not Bombs! Are you a suicide bomber?

If you are not of the Christian persuasion and would like to communicate, than myself and surely seriously thinking people everywhere, the world over --lovers of truth-- would like to participate in a respectable discussion that we might be able to share and comprehend just why, who, how, what and where your faith dismisses Jesus Christ?

Are Christians wrong in their beliefs?

If any one's religion is truth; it will stand up to scrutiny.

No matter what we might personally believe, our belief will not change what is truth. Truth is beyond us, and unchangeable. Truth needs to be sought after. "Seek and ye shall find..."

But, we personally bear the fruit and the consequences of what we believe; be it good or bad, wrong or right. Who or what is the authority for our belief? How does this " authority" stand up? How do we know what is true? How do we know who is right? We are responsible to search for truth and to work out our own salvation, based on truth sought after, not just based on what others might have taught us, out of ignorance, or for their own agenda.

Unknowingly, or blindly, following evil will not make evil right. Evil will destroy and justly be punished; it cannot offer God's grace, forgiveness, nor deliver anyone to Heaven, or bliss.

Bad religion? Bad science? Bad history? Bad motives? There is plenty of all that, going around. Are you bumbling in the dark. or walking in the light?

Let us ask, knock, and seek for what is true, and good. Let us together follow the one true God, of yesterday, today and forever, the "I am."

We, the people of the world, need to get up close, to examine all the conflicting and waring religions and beliefs; study the history, and the science; --ask questions, debate; do the research and the home work.

Killing one another solves nothing; but, only leads to one's own demise. We need each other. We need to love one another, not kill one another. Evil feeds on itself; first on outsiders, than inward. Evil has no hope.

There is only one God, and there is only one truth. Acceptance and toleration is insufficient. Good and evil cannot live side by side. Only truth and love, God; --is the power to save mankind. This should be our nourishment and sustenance.

Truth, together with love, not bombs, will save us --from ourselves.

Branches broken from the vine of God; without life nourishment, wither and die, like fish out of water.

Who do we think we are, anyway? And what are we really? And what is our destiny?

What is our faith? How important is it?

This is about life and death for each of us individually, for each other, and for the planet.

How did this get started?

Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained she didn't want any prayer in our schools. And we said, OK..------------------Then, someone said you better not read the Bible in school, the Bible that says "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbors as yourself," And we said, OK... -----------------Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehaved because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem. And we said, an expert should know what he's talking about so we won't spank them anymore..------------------Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued. And we accepted their reasoning...------------------Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents. And we said, that's a grand idea...------------------Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want, so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said, that's another great idea...------------------Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. And we said, it doesn't matter what anybody, including the President, does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good.... ------------------And someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then stepped further still by making them available on the Internet. And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....------------------And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence and illicit sex...And let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...And we said, it's just entertainmentand it has no adverse effect and nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead.------------------Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.------------------Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough, we could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with..."WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

This Amazing Universe, and Quantum Physics

This Amazing Universe, and Quantum Physics.

Yes! God's universe truely is amazing! The latest Space news comes directly to my computer, as I have subscribed to that subject. I've also collected 6 huge books, binders; the complete set of, "Secrets To The Universe."

Another fascination, is the other end of the spectrum, Quantum Physics. With today's micron microscopes, they have reached in as small as the atom and far beyond. Einstein was right about mass and "Energy." How and what we think; that energy, is more important than we realize, to do with our well being.

What amazes me, is how the depth and truth and power of God's word is borne out. We see mostly in a flat and limited dimension, only the tip of the reality and fullness of all that is. People don't really comprehend the depth and power of God's word, of the source of life itself. Remember, that God is the Source of ourselves, life and everything good, of all creation. By staying connected to the source, which is loving and good and just; we being the fruit of the vine, are able to reach our full potential, as to what our creator had/has in mind for each and all of us. Apart from the vine, that is the flow from the source God, the blood of the Son of Man/Son of God, Jesus our Christ, than we wither and die, as broken and fallen branches, without food, or fish out of water.
