It’s all a bit confusing for me to figure out this story here and tell who is right , if anyone is, but what comes to my mind, is …how can anyone on this earth get through life without Jesus? For example: Jesus knew what he was talking about when he told us not to bear false witness. That is, --Do not lie. If you have a relationship with a person who has the tendency to deceive or lie, than you will surely see that they have a lot of heavy burdens in life, without Jesus Christ to lift them up. If you feel like you are going crazy, because you don’t know for sure what is going on, are in a tizzy and don’t know what to do, and can’t handle it; than pray to Jesus to help and guide you both. Find a red-letter edition of the Bible, New Testament, and read the words of Jesus. God’s kingdom is not of this world, and He will lift you up, if your heart is right. Than you will be able to see and hear more clearly, because God's ways are not man's ways.

Tell it like it is?

Yes; I tell it like it is, but I also try to be sensitive, so as not to be a stumbling block to anyone just getting their feet wet, or who is a babe in Christ. I try to back up the things I say; otherwise who cares what I believe? We are to be the light and the salt of the earth, and not hide our faith under a bushel basket. Jesus did not teach us not to think, or ask questions. Faith has eyes that see, and ears to hear. Faith is not blind. We can know for sure of the things that are invisible, by studying the things that are visible. Trust in God matures within us when we put on Christ and through the years we grow wisdom, love and knowledge. Love is eternal.

About the “Rapture.”
We need to do our homework on this one.
We also have to look at the different ways people interpret the book of Revelation. There are tests that can be used to rationally see which method holds credability. That is another study in itself, but the truth is there for those who care to persue. As mentioned here by some of the other respondents; the Bible does not teach this doctrine, nor does it fit the other pieces in the puzzle. God's Word is truth, and if an individual interpretation fails to fit in, or harmonize with the rest of scripture (and also good science), than one needs to think again, and do some intensive study on the subject. Realize, that just because someone writes a book, does not necessarily dictate that it is true. There may well be books written with opposing views. Research the history of where this doctrine came from, and is it really true? I believe that you will find that it is not, and causes much harm when it comes to trying to share God's truth with others. Athiests have a field day with such false teachings by many preachers. It's scientists vs. preachers, not science vs. the Bible.

Following, is part of an article, mentioning this subject, written by Mr. John Clayton, renown scientist, and ex athiest, his website: www.doesgodexist.org . This might add a little light to this discussion.

"One of the tragedies of denominational creationism is that it continues to produce a constant stream of radical creationists who turn science into the enemy and then attack it to support their denominational traditions. Because most of these denominational creationists are dispensational creationists, the age of the earth is a major issue to them. Ronald Number's exhaustive study of creationism, reported in his book The Creationists, has shown this clearly, and in much of creationist materials we see references to the "Rapture," the "Great Tribulation," and of course to the whole "Left Behind" scenario. If you believe the earth's history to consist of six identified roughly 1,000 year ages, ending in the rapture, the seven year tribulation, the 1,000 year physical reign of Jesus from Jerusalem, then you cannot accept anything that would suggest the earth could possibly be significantly over 10,000 years old. Because of the abundance of materials, many amillenialists have blindly copied these materials and promoted as biblical the notions that denominational creationism teaches. It is not our intention to promote any particular age to the earth, but simply to point out that the age of the earth has nothing to do with the Gospel of Christ and is a human enterprise with denominational connections. The earth could be trillions of years old and the Gospel of Christ would not be changed. The problem is that, in promoting their denominational traditions, millennialists have frequently promoted scientifically inaccurate materials and, when children find out the errors in these materials, the results can be very destructive."

Do you believe everything that Jesus said?

Yes; --I do believe everything that Jesus said.
Of course, as with all of the Bible, we need to be knowledgeable and open to everything that Jesus said, in all totality, and in the proper context, so that we might be as clear in our understanding of God's message to us as possible.
Just because people ‘attend church’ doesn’t mean they are perfect. Are you perfect just because you are reading the Bible? Nor are people Christians just because they might wear the name Christian, or wave a Christian banner.
However; in communing in worship with one another, Christians do help each other up. Being a unique person and member of the body of Christ, no one stands alone. We are all growing in our walk with the Lord, being continually transformed, are born again, and tested. God is not through with us yet. You might think of the ‘church’ as a hospital for sinners. In the sight of God our sins have/are forgiven, washed away in the blood of Jesus our Christ on the cross, God’s sacrificial lamb, and our robes have been washed white as snow. You will know they are Christians by their love.
Instead of being ‘angry’ with someone, or at something, Christians may well find themselves ‘sad.’ Think about what Christ prayed, on the cross: “Father: --forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
Additionally; this may be a great time to reach out to that special someone who needs Jesus Christ in their life. (Everyone needs Jesus in their life, --we are all sinners, and fall short-- for it is He who gives life, and is the true light --but not all are receptive.) Christians are saved by God’s grace through our faith, and not of ourselves, or by any good works done, lest anyone should have cause to boast.

The Lord's church

Should members be allowed to vote

I assume that you are talking about members of the Lord's church.

No one pays to be a member. No one joins the Lord's church; Christ adds believers to his church, at their baptism (not infants). Members of the body of Christ do not vote. (See Acts 2 )

Christ's church is not a democracy. Jesus Christ is the head of his church, and has all authority in heaven and on earth. Our authority today comes from the Bible only. His Word never changes. We have been given everything we need to know for life and godliness. Each congregation is autonomous, ideally including elders and deacons. The Bible is our only authority, and that is what we have in common, and binds us together. There is no 'Pope' or headquarters handing down doctrine of men. See the book of Acts for the beginning of the Lord's church, on the day of Pentacost, in Jerusalem, year 33 AD.

You can learn about the church in the book of Acts, and learn about their everyday situations in the 'letters,' such as Corinthians, Romans, etc. To understand who Jesus Christ is, read the book of John.

How to believe in jesus

There seems to be some confusion here about who Jesus is.

God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The three are One. People seem to have a problem with this, but I personally can’t see why this is so hard for some to understand. Tell me, what is ‘water’? Is water not a combination of hydrogen and oxygen? Take away one of those elements, and you no longer have water. Water is water, and God is God. I am not just throwing out a theory here, but this is what the Bible teaches, when you study it through and put it all together in its perfect truth and harmony. To believe otherwise, than how can you deal with all the supposed ‘contradictions’ that atheists and others will present to you, in order to ‘prove’ that the Bible contradicts itself? Is it not rational thinking to believe that if one is holding onto ‘truth,’ than all the corners and pieces should and will fit the entire puzzle perfectly? Jesus often replied to those who did not fully understand scripture, when he replied to them, “It is also written.” Realize that even Satan quoted scripture.

The scriptures quoted above are just as true as any others but the total picture is not fully understood. Surely, Jesus would say here also, “It is also written.”

The truth is we worship in spirit to the Father through Jesus the Son. Christians worship in Truth and Spirit. There are so many scriptures that I could quote, but I will try to show you some of the most pertinent ones as examples. Of course, as you read the Bible for yourself your understanding will increase; that is, if you have eyes that see and ears that hear; because not everyone does.

Here, below are just a few scriptures I have picked, of which there are many, to show that Jesus and God are not “two separate persons,” as stated above. The truth is; God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the three entities are ONE. In marriage, a husband and wife become ONE flesh. There is ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism. (See Eph. 4:4).

Remember, how I suggested starting reading with the book of John? That is because you wanted, or needed, to know about Jesus, --in order to be able to believe in Him. How could anyone truthfully and rationally be able believe in Jesus, if they didn’t know anything about him? Let the Bible, --God’s truth, God’s Word, Jesus, God’s love, tell you about who Jesus is:

1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2: The same was in the beginning with God.

3: All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4: In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5: And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7: The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8: He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9: That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10: He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11: He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15: John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16: And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17: For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18: No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (John 1:1-18).

“I and my Father are one.” (John 10:30).

“And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.” (John 20:28).

“ For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” (1 John 5:7-8).

Following, are some random scriptures I came up with; but the easiest way to get the true picture, is to just read it all in full context for yourself. You may find it hard to put God’s word down, once you really get into it. God is talking to you. God’s Word is truth. God is Truth. God is Love. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. J John 8:42; 10:30; 11:25; 17:22; Rom. 15:8; 1 Cor. 8:6; Eph. 4:7; 5:20; 5:31; Mat. 4:7; Luke 1:47; 4:12; Acts 4:24.

Another thing to understand, is that the New Testament is God’s New Covenant with mankind, brought to light by God Himself, Jesus the Son, becoming the only perfect sacrifice possible to atone for the sins of all mankind. God is ’just’ therefore our sins had/have to be paid for. God sent Jesus in his love, that we might not perish in our sins. The blood of Jesus on the cross at Calvary is what seals the New Testament forever. We are no longer bound by the law of the Old Testament, the Law of sin and death; which was but a shadow , a mystery, a school master for our learning,, as what was to come, and He has come. Today, we are able to be saved from our sins, by grace, through faith, and not of ourselves. (See Eph. 2:8-9).

And then when we study the Old Testament, in light of the New Testament, --it really brings it all home, and together with so many evidences of good science, and history, we can know that Jesus is truly from God and not of men. Now, we have the hope of life eternal!

How to believe in Jesus:
Well; it would be helpful to know where you are at the moment. The scriptures say ‘seek and ye shall find, knock and the door will be opened to you. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
In the beginning, at a time when I was down and out, I fell in love with Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. I felt then, that whoever wrote it had the best wisdom I had ever encountered and I chose to follow it. I think it was already in me, like common sense, verified and brought to the surface. How else could mankind find world peace, than to follow the teachings of Jesus? I thought, at least, that when my time comes I will die happy, whether right or wrong.
As time went on, I came to know and believe that Jesus is real. I lived it and did the research. We can know of the things invisible by the things that are visible. His Word has held up all these years. It is miraculous and deeper than you can imagine, but given in a way we might understand. God has given us everything we need to know for life and godliness.
Who; or what, holds out saving hope for all people and all nations; but the guidance, wisdom and power of the words of Jesus Christ; easily found in red-letter editions of the Holy Bible, New Testament. The value of the divine wisdom there, pure truth and love can be recognized. There is no other hope for the world, for mankind.
When you are alone, and in your own privacy, read the words of Christ in the New Testament, for yourself. God’s word will lift you up; His Word and kingdom is not of this world. Read the Bible for yourself, because there are more false teachers out there, than not, who may well deceive you and teach false doctrine. Ask lots of questions of those who would teach, and check out the things they say with your own Bible, to see if the things they say are true. By reading the Bible for yourself in private, --starting with the New Testament--you will come to believe more and more in Jesus, and you will be able to discern what truth is and what is not. I suggest starting with the book of John, and then Matthew, and then Romans, Luke and the book of Acts. You don’t have to have strong faith to follow Jesus, but by following Jesus your faith will grow strong. His word never changes; and therefore you can give your life to Jesus and no matter what, you will have the love of God to give you lasting, eternal life in Him. Life does not come by bread alone, but by the Word of God, which is love eternal. He will carry your burdens and lift you up. That is how to believe in Jesus. To come to believe in Jesus, is to put him on. Wherever He leads, follow.
